Day of performance ticket purchases after 4pm will not be processed.

Gioachino Rossini’s La Cenerentola opera was written in Italian in the year1816. In this production, world-renowned stage director Garnett Bruce updates Rossini’s charming take on the classic fairy tale Cinderella to the 1930’s in Hollywood. Both English and Spanish subtitles provided.

Directors Notes —
We have set our version of the Cinderella story in America, specifically in the hopes and dreams that Hollywood provided during the Great Depression. Ramiro’s palace becomes “Palace Pictures” and Magnifico’s world is that of Vaudeville, which the public was quickly discarding in favor of the silver screen. 1933 seemed to mark a turning point in Hollywood, turning away from large production numbers to strongly focused human dramas and comedies. With the wealth of images and creativity within Hollywood’s movie magic, our designers embraced the energy of renewal and discovery behind the work at Paramount, MGM, and Warner Bros. as a backdrop to Rossini’s story.

In many ways, our metaphor supports Rossini’s core intent, to show that it is our own human nature that provides the magic to make our dreams come true, not fairy godmothers (or dancing mice). Just as Angelina’s hopes and dreams know no bounds, so does the timeless need for goodness and integrity to triumph over deceit and selfishness.
