General Information
- The opera is performed in the original language in which it was composed. El Paso Opera displays the translations via supertitles in English and Spanish during the performance.
- Cameras and recording devices are prohibited.
- Pagers, cellular phones or any other electronic devices are to be turned off or put on silent mode before the performance.
- Latecomers will be seated at intermission.
Pre-opera activities
- Café Trovatore – An elegant buffet dinner at the El Paso Club, 201 E. Main,18th floor atop the Chase Bank Building Downtown. For $40 per person, the dinner includes buffet, tax, gratuity, and valet parking. Seating begins at 5 PM. Proceeds to benefit El Paso Opera.
- Pre-Opera Lecture Series – The Pre-Opera Lecture is hosted by General Director William Dickinson. He will discuss the opera’s storyline and related history as well as share personal insight on the production of the evening’s performance. The lecture begins at 6:30 PM in the Abraham Chavez Theatre Lobby and is free to anyone attending the opera.
- Opera Boutique – Browse and shop through the opera boutique Located in the Abraham Chavez Theatre lobby where you will find commemorative posters, CD’s, T-shirts, keepsakes, opera glasses, one-of-a kind items and much more.

This is my first time at the Opera, any tips?
- Attend the pre-opera lecture series held in the Chavez theatre lobby before the show. The lecture is a wonderful way to familiarize yourself with the opera storyline, the opera’s composer, and personal insight on the production of the evening’s performance.
- Listen to a recording of the opera you're about to hear, and while you are listening, follow along with the libretto (the libretto is the text of a dramatic musical work, such as an opera.)
- Rent and view a video tape of the production.
Are children allowed? Children age 7 and older accompanied by an adult are welcomed. Patrons should keep in mind that Opera performances are often lengthy and subject matter may not always be appropriate for young children. View Storyline
How early should I arrive? Arriving at The Abraham Chavez Theatre might be confusing, especially if it's your first time. So we suggest arriving 45 minutes before curtain at the theatre. This way you will avoid traffic and have enough time to find your seat.
How should I dress? No dress requirements or dress codes are required when attending the opera. Typically, El Paso Opera patrons will be dressed in cocktail attire, others in business attire and others formally dressed.
Where can I park? Parking for The Abraham Chavez Theatre will be available for a $4 fee. The entrance to this parking lot is on Santa Fe Street.
